2008 Salt Lake County Social Services Block Grant
Service for this grant is directed at low-income particularly underserved ethnic populations such as refugees from Somalia, Iraq, and Afghanistan. We have a $10,000 for 2008-09. The results for the 2008 Salt Lake County Social Service Grant that we began October 1, 2008 through December 31, 2008 are:
Seven Social Service Facilitators providing service.
Forty-five assignments performed – Medical 20; Employment 11; Government 5; Social Service Agencies 3; Education 3; Errands 3
Total hours of service performed 113.4 hours.
2007 Utah Department of Workforce Services Refugee Interpreter Grant
A $5,000 Refugee Interpreter Grant was completed for Utah Workforce Services in 2008.
The grant was serviced by nine interpreters.
Salt Lake American Muslim Interpreters serviced a total of twenty-seven clients as follows of
which 13 males and 14 females:
seven Iraqis of which five were males and two females
thirteen Afghans of which five were males and eight were females
one Burundian (male), one Sudanese (female), one Lebanese (female), and four Somalis (2 females and 2 males)
Ninety eight assignments performed.
Interpretation Service provided by category and hours is as follows:
Hospital/Doctor related interpreter service 100.5 Hours
Internal Revenue Service related interpreter service 4 Hours
Refugee Social Service Agency (Catholic Community Services, IRC, Asian Assoc) 13 Hours
Job Search, Job Interview related interpreter service 54.5 Hours
Schools Visits related interpreter service 22.5 Hours
Court and Immigration related interpreter service 35.5 Hours
Housing related interpreter service 18.5 Hours
Driving Instruction and Drivers License related interpreter service 26.25 Hours
Total hours of interpretation services provided were 274.75 Hours
Salt Lake American Muslim has completed two Tobacco Prevention and Control Mini-projects, for Utah Department of Health prior to 2005.
